An IT leadership journey from users to customers
Nourish Relationships - Which new contacts did I make?

Most of us are comfortable with our relatively small group of friends and colleagues, and if we are exposed to new people, then great; but we rarely actively seek out new contacts. We get into our routines and like to stay there. But, when you consider that possibly eighty percent of all jobs that people obtain are achieved through relationships, we start to realize that maybe we need to be reaching out more. If you are not convinced that you personally need to do this, think about your team. Who could you introduce them to that could further their careers? Or what about when a partner is looking to fill a key position in their organization; could you make a recommendation? Or is everyone you are close to, also working in the same company or running in the same circles? What if you cannot solve the problem for the customers, but are able to refer them to someone who can? With trust and accountability established, this can help cement relationships. So attend a users group; join a society; but at least monthly make sure that you go out your way to add just one new contact to your world. You never know when that person may turn out to be a life saver!
