Innovate - Take time to raise your eyes from the immediate tasks
This seems a lot easier than it actually turns out to be for most people. We are all busy, right? All of us have way more to do than we can possibly get done on any given day, right? There is no way we are going to take the time to set aside immediate, urgent tasks to look off into the distance! That is why it is imperative that you take time at least monthly to review the big picture. The minute details of day-to-day can easily drown this out, so it is important that you block off some time. Henry Ford once said, “If I had asked my customers what they wanted, they would have told me faster horses!”4 So how can you focus on what you need to deliver to the customer without looking to the future? Being well read and experiencing new things can help expose you to the weak trends you need to be feeding yourself with, but without making time to digest and ponder on these, you might miss the big picture. You need to make the time commitment to avoid the risk of being penny-wise and pound foolish. You are not serving your customer if you are unable to offer services in the future; devoting some time to the big picture feeds future services.
