Transform - Tailor the policy and procedures inside you organization to meet your own style
Every organization has its policies and procedures; they are designed to bring conformity and standards to the work that many people will contribute to, and while these have a clear value in the organization, it is important that you do not let these become straightjackets for you and your team. You are employed because you are talented, creative and competent, so make sure you add your own style to the procedures you are prescribed to work in. Make sure that your staff witnesses you experimenting with the established way of doing things and encourage them to do the same. As I mentioned in the paragraphs above, you need to add your context into what you do to make sure you are providing the maximum benefit. There are very few cookie-cutter solutions that will genuinely add value to your team; therefore, make sure you devote enough of yourself into what you do so that people will recognize your work and your style. Now, for the IT professionals out there who do not believe they have a style, that have not been inside a store for years, because someone else handles the arduous task of providing them clothes to wear - that is not the style I am after; I am after the essence of what makes you unique - the contribution to the project that could only have come from you. Do not blindly follow, but lead and experiment. What imprint on a project do you leave that a customer will recognize unmistakably as your work? It’s that you care and devoted your best effort.
