Transform - Radar charts
Few transformations will ever take hold without a couple of tools along the way. The radar chart is one that is so simple, so intuitive and so easy to represent in almost every major spreadsheet package, I thought it would be valuable to add. During a tough financial year, we as an IT department had aligned ourselves with cost-cutting infrastructure projects that would occupy six months. As a leadership team, we were comfortable with the approach, until I tossed it in a radar chart. We viewed our work on mission criticality and scored high; on financial benefits, again scoring high; but on direct impact to our customers, very low! We had been spooked by budget cuts, and rather than turning outward, we had turned inward; we had made a mistake and were unaware of it. I am sure most of you are aware that what you do not know still can kill you! The simple chart provided instant insight into a blind spot. What tools do you use to help you see around corners? Have you shared them with your team? What about your customers? What would it be like if you did?
