Awareness of Pitfalls - Old school thinking
The brain is a hugely efficient organ; it does the most it possibly can with a minimal amount of effort, so old-school thinking is often the path of least resistance. This is baked into us as humans, because the brain does not want to waste energy. However, when looking to be transformative, you have to be able to kick-start the brain and get it firing on all cylinders again. You need to fight old-school thinking in yourself and others, and you need to be smart about it. Do not approach a group of entrenched colleagues who have been working the same way for decades and ask them to change overnight. Rather, seek out the like-minded in the organization and set up some small wins for change. You want this new behavior not to seem like a mandate for change, but rather a way to get results. You want the move from users to customers to seem like the next logical step in your IT team’s journey, not so much something you opt in or out of, but move forward with because anything else would be unthinkable or at least illogical.
