Build Trust - Loosen up
I am from Scotland, a nation of engineers, of steel bridge builders, an uptight people who like to be on schedule and stand on solid ground. While this has served me well, I have had to learn to loosen up, take a relaxed attitude and foster an attitude of gratitude. Now, there is still a time and place for intensity and drive; however, it is with much chagrin that I have had to admit that my team performs better when I am not yelling, screaming and pressing towards deadlines. When you are thankful for those around you, and appreciate the work they do, they are far more likely to respond in kind and deliver way past your expectations. In fact, some people actually are more productive when they feel like they have a best friend in the office. Do you foster that type of work environment? Could you? Would you? Do you socialize with your team after hours or over lunch?
