Establish Accountability - Leaders need to accept responsibility for future leaders

I may have touched on this before, but you are immortal, right? You are going to live forever and never need to be replaced. Not only that, but you want to continue pouring all your time and effort of immortality into work. If you did not answer yes, yes and whole heartedly agree to the last statement, then chances are you need to be thinking about who will be leading after you have moved on to greener pastures. Now this can be a stressful thing, because effectively you are grooming someone to put you out of a job. But consider this; do you really want the exact some job five years from now? By training someone to take over the reins, are you not opening up career opportunities for both parties - for them to fill your shoes, and for you to have additional time to work on the more strategic, more interesting projects. I always hope to be blessed to work with a team of individuals who are smarter than I am, that with the right mentoring and guidance could fill my role with relative ease. Do you feel the same? Are you threatened by your team? If so, why? If not, what have you done recently to ensure they are in training to be the leaders of tomorrow?
