Innovate - Iterate
Innovation takes creativity, normally a team and also agility. So do not be afraid to iterate through a problem when seeking out the best solutions. I know many of you will be familiar with the waterfall lifecycle model, but as consumerism increasingly influences IT, we are going to have to work more nimbly, iterating over proposed solutions to reach the optimal one. Like a chess prodigy, we cannot sit down at the table and be instantly successful. It takes years of practice, tweaking and fine-tuning to become a Master. The same can be true of your project deliverables; touch base with your customers often. Iterate through revisions, because that way you can make small correction early, with grace, rather than trying to turn the juggernaut on a dime at the last minute. Iterating allows you to make these small early corrections, without impact to the customer or project; without it, even small deviations early in the planning process can have big consequences.
