An IT leadership journey from users to customers
Nourish Relationships - Includes views from many vantage points

You as an IT leader are always right, correct? In your illustrious career you have never made a mistake or taken a misstep. If there was a certification for infallibility, you would have been given it years ago, right? Really, have you never in the past been wrong? Before embarking on your next project of any significance, you should get viewpoints from trusted advisors. Now, we have already discussed building trust, so you are not asking just anyone’s opinion, but seeking out advice from experts that you trust. Even if the people do not view themselves as experts, it makes no difference; people love to be asked for their advice and opinions, and you will be surprised how freely they give you what you seek. Their input can help you identify and correct blind spots, while also reducing your personal biases that may have crept into the planning of the project. They can help ensure that you are solving problems optimally for the customer, and not just working on some cool technology you are interested in. When you present solutions to your team, customers and colleagues, you have a better chance of reaching consensus, as you have already vetted through your trusted advisors, taken corrective action if necessary and reviewed your solutions from multiple vantage points.
