An IT leadership journey from users to customers
Transform - End a project by beginning another

When you are driving a project to completion, there is often a sense of urgency and excitement to get the final deliverable made and notch up a win. Now, would it not be great to carry the same energy into the next project? Would your team not prefer that? And what about the customers? So why not springboard from one project into the next? While you are entering the final phase of one project, why not start ramping up another? Now, I am not talking about over-committing yourself, but merely spinning something up in parallel that you can transition over to when the current project is finished. It can help avoid the lag that we can feel when trying to get new project up and running. The waiting for approvals, the scheduling meetings, all the mundane maintenance could easily be slipped into you existing calendar and allow you to keep the energy going into the next project. When you start this process, it also serves as a good marker to document the lessons-learned from the previous project that you will want to add to your professional library. You should at least be able to pull one lesson out of every project; otherwise you are in danger of being pickled.
