Nourish Relationships - Develop the optimal solution for your client, not necessarily the technically-best solution
Those of us who work in IT are all, for the most part, fundamentally techie people and, as such, we like to geek out over the latest and greatest technology we can get our hands on. It is therefore difficult for us to accept that, as we build relationships with our customers, we must focus more on their needs than our technology lust. We must define “what good looks like” and work toward it. Perfection is not always required. Neither is the latest gadget or development trend. The best way to make your non-technical customers truly appreciate your service is to provide them the optimal solution to their needs. Now, if it is a high-tech solution; perfect, but please guard against delivering technology for technology’s sake. This merely serves to undermine the respect, trust and relationship you have tried so hard to build.
