Build Trust - Create small wins
Trust does not take place overnight; it needs to be cared for and nurtured, grown over time. Therefore, when building relationships and gaining trust, you need to ensure you establish some smalls wins. People do not like change, and when they are faced with a new way of working or thinking, you need to make sure they have something to hold on to when they encounter their first challenge. People like to be in their comfort zones, and asking for trust can move them into a new, strange paradigm. So as you develop new working models and relationships, make sure to champion what is going well. Even if it’s the little things, you want people to stick with the ideas of trusting their team and sharing information, even after some setbacks. A great insurance policy here is to keep what has gone well top of mind; people enjoy praise and a sense of accomplishment, so make sure you provide opportunities to do both. Highlight team members who have actively tried to view users as customers. Achievable goals allow you both to celebrate successes and instill confidence; with each passing achievement, the goals can be a little bit easier to obtain until the new ways of working become second nature.
