Information Technology, Pimps and Drug Dealers

An IT leadership journey from users to customers
Innovate - Build a framework that can be easily adapted to multiple situations

People are involved in most IT systems in some form or fashion, either as consumers of deliverables or sources of information. The fact is that there are never going to be two systems you produce that are exactly the same. Therefore, when you are building frameworks to help support your business, make sure they are flexible. Include as many different disciplines as you can get your hands on to contribute, because if you are putting something together and everyone is in agreement, you are probably missing something. You do not want to straight-jacket new associates with overly- complicated processes, but rather get them up to speed promptly by introducing them to a network of tools and techniques that they can access quickly, master easily and adapt to their personality. A new development manager joined an organization I was part of and brought with him a code generator to expedite common coding tasks, populating drop down boxes from databases, etc. A few of his former colleagues also joined and they sang his praises. I was skeptical at first, but they took the time to ensure I experienced a couple of quick wins, and from that point on, I was hooked. I have implemented the same kind of technology is other organizations. What cool new tools could you offer your team today? What tools would spark your customer’s interest?
