An IT leadership journey from users to customers
Know Yourself - Be able to change your point of view

You are a hugely successful professional, right? A master of your domain! Why would you need to change your point of view, right? There is a story that, over the course of evolution, various species, when faced with the choice to change or die, nine times out of ten, chose to die! As you start to understand who you are and what you stand for, make sure you identify the sacred cows you hold dear, and do not be afraid to challenge them. Do not be afraid to spar with your colleagues, and if they have a better idea or point, acknowledge that, agree with them and move on. This will be critical in your ability to reclassify those annoying users who are always breaking stuff to actual customers whose myriad of problems are actually a sea of opportunity for you. Know who you are, realize when you are incorrect or do not have the best idea, and get out of your own way. Do not let pride or ego keep you from reframing a problem or taking a different approach. You need to create a culture where this is not viewed as losing face or as humiliating, but rather as modeling the concept of failing forward.
