An IT leadership journey from users to customers
Transform - Balance cost, schedule and performance

Again, this seems like a no-brainer, but it is worth a little deeper discussion. Everyone wants what they want when they want it! That is, your team, your boss, your customers, and your partners; however, when you start to add in the complexities of life, people get a little bit pickier about what they actually want. Have you ever paid an expedite fee; was it worth it? Depended on the context, right? The same is true of cost, schedule and performance. It goes back to the old adage you can have two of the following three: quick, cheap or good, but not all three in the normal chain of events. So when working to balance these in the eyes of your stakeholders, remember that honest iterative discussions about what is truly important will give you key insights into how to balance cost, schedule and performance. In a true partnership, things will get out of balance from time to time, but over the course of time will naturally correct, and when trying to make the transformation from users to customers, do not over-promise and under-deliver. Master balancing these three areas, and you should be in for a downhill battle.
